Home Wine Kitchen – Dandy Lunch

February 3, 2012

Home Wine Kitchen inhabits the adorable space along the main drag of Maplewood on Manchester that used to house Nosh.  They’ve introduced some weathered barn-wood to the walls, but otherwise it’s largely unchanged.

Home Wine Kitchen has a well-edited and tempting dinner menu (that I’ll have to sample at some point), but the place just screams weekend lunch spot.  What you see to the left is their Duck Club, which was served on crispy toast (lots of butter involved) and was laden with tender duck, onion jam, bacon, and bleu cheese.  Large portion too.  Ate half of it there along with the delicately seasoned potato salad, and saved the other half for a midnight snack after a night out. My dining partner ordered the restaurant’s “lunch box,” which was a flavorful pork sandwich (not a regular menu item) that was followed by a dessert of cubes of pound cake topped with orange scented cream and chocolate shavings.  It was a nice bite of sweet, but nothing mind-blowing.

Ultimate verdict:  Eventually, I’ll certainly be happy to go back for another civilized lunch, even if it was just a touch pricey for what it was.
