Delightful Saturday Lunch – Nosh

September 4, 2010

Saturday lunch – particularly on a gorgeous day like today – is a wonderful thing.  For me, I usually have a long to-do list, but because it’s Saturday, a leisurely lunch is usually doable. When possible, my preferred Saturday lunch partner is my mom.  Our typical impulse is to try something new, but quite often we end up at either City Coffee House or Cyranos (Saturday lunch perfection to be sure).  Today though my noggin’ came through and pulled out Nosh in Maplewood as a suggestion.

Other lunch-time/deli/country-store type establishments have inhabited the same space right in the center of activity along Manchester in Maplewood.  Some of them have been quite good, but Nosh is perfect for the location – creative and relaxed.  Loved the super chilled pitcher of water with chunks of citrus and sprigs of mint, brought as a matter of course when we sat down.   We split a ham and brie (accompanied by a peach chutney) sandwich and a burger (locavore style).  For our sides we had the house potato chips and mediterranean salad.  The verdict: ham and brie took first prize (excellent ham), the bread on both sandwiches was just a little too thick, and little touches like the jalapeno pickled cucumbers were much appreciated.  And because the quality of the lunch just begged inquiring of the dessert options, we ended up splitting a plain ol’ classic warm brownie topped with vanilla ice cream and strawberries.  Just delightful.
